Given a wide array of putative beneficial effects of apelin in various conditions, such as atherosclerosis [4], myocardial infarction [5], heart failure [6]–[9], arrhythmias [10] and pulmonary arterial hypertension [11], the apelin–apelin receptor system represents a promising therapeutic target in cardiovascular disease states. This evidence concerns the gene APLN and myocardial infarction.
