In addition to the binding of transcription factors, other mechanisms, known to regulate gene transcription at different levels (i.e. recruitment of other members of the “transcription machinery”, interplay of enhancer molecules or small non-coding RNAs) may participate in controlling TFPI-2 mRNA levels thus leading to its silencing in DLBCL samples in spite of lower methylation levels. The gene discussed is TFPI2; the disease is diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
