In contrast to the Hsp60 effects observed in preadipocytes, Hsp60 exposure of mature adipocytes increased the activation of ERK1/2 (2.1 ± 0.2-fold, P < 0.01) and NFκB (3.5 ± 0.2-fold, P < 0.01) in C57BL/6J mouse-derived cells, whereas in cells from the diabetes predisposed mouse strains, Hsp60-induced activation of the investigated pathways was only moderate or low (<2-fold) (Figure 5(b)). The gene discussed is MAPK3; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
