Using the rodent model of Parkinson's disease induced by MPP+ (1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium) intrastriatal injection, our group found that the administration of CuSO4 (10 μmol/kg i.p.)as a pretreatment 24 h before the lesion prevented protein nitration, TH inactivation, and dopamine depletion and decreased the activity of constitutive nitric oxide synthase (cNOS) in the striatum [148]. This evidence concerns the gene TH and Parkinson disease.
