In prostate cancer, miR-29b was identified to be upregulated in response to c-myc promoter binding protein (MBP-1), and as a result, the expression of a number of oncogenic proteins including MMP-2, myeloid cell leukemia sequence 1 (Mcl-1), collagen, type I, alpha 1 (COL1A1), and collagen, type IV, alpha 1 (COL4A1) were all down regulated and MMP-2 was experimentally confirmed to be a direct target of miR-29b [78]. This evidence concerns the gene MMP2 and Familial prostate cancer.
