DGAT catalyzes the formation of triglyceride in the final step of triglyceride biosynthesis via covalently linking a fatty acyl CoA with the free hydroxyl group of diacylglycerol, and DGAT inhibition is beneficial for the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia via decreasing serum triglyceride levels [14, 15]. This evidence concerns the gene DGAT1 and hypertriglyceridemia.
