LRRK2 and Parkinson disease: The physiological functions of LRRK2 in neuronal cells have been linked to vesicular trafficking [31,32], cytoskeletal dynamics [33,34], mitochondrial function [35,36], apoptosis [37], and regulation of the autophagy pathway [38-41]; however, how LRRK2 mutations cause neurodegeneration in PD is currently under debate.
