LYVE1 and cancer: Macrophages are thought to support lymphangiogenesis in two ways: by transdifferentiation into lymphatic endothelial cells [23], [25]–[27], and by stimulating preexisting local lymphatic endothelial cells via release of lymphangiogenic factors [24], [25].Although LYVE-1 is regarded to be specifically expressed by lymphatic endothelial cells [20], LYVE-1-positive macrophages have also been reported in inflammatory tissue and malignant tumors [23], [26], [27].
