In adults, CYP2E1 expression is influenced by age, obesity, diabetes and other chronic diseases, fasting, diet, and exposure to CYP2E1 inducers (e.g., ethanol, benzene, acetone) and substrates (e.g., caffeine, acetaminophen) (Brill et al. 2012; Miksys and Tyndale 2004; Pohl and Scinicariello 2011). Here, CYP2E1 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
