The high levels of FGM during the follicular growth phase should also be considered as an important factor in the occurrence of these follicles, due to endocrine disorders caused by the release of corticosteroids [46] and/or progesterone production by the adrenal gland [47], which can inhibit the LH peak and/or affect oocyte competence [24], resulting in lower receptor acquisition and, consequently, lower responsiveness to LH [48]. The gene discussed is PLOD1; the disease is endocrine system disorder.
