Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, VIP has been successfully applied as a therapeutic agent in multiple pathologies, such as heart failure, primary pulmonary hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and gastrointestinal motility disorders (Gozes and Furman 2003; Gozes and Furman 2004), and may be a candidate for treatment of various inflammatory processes.
