Interestingly, a study of normal blood donors from Cameroon (N = 44) and AIDS patients from Nigeria (N = 20) detected orf-x and gag-like sequences in 10% and 26% of whole blood specimens, respectively, but failed to detect JSRV-like sequences in a European cohort of 20 hemophiliacs, 15 blood donors, and 4 patients with adenocarcinoma in-situ or SCLC [27]. Here, ATP6AP1 is linked to adenocarcinoma in situ.
