The presence of organ specific autoantibodies (thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies with autoimmune thyroiditis, EMA and TTG autoantibodies with celiac disease, and 21-hydroxylase autoantibodies with Addison disease) can precede the development of overt disease, [1] therefore these organ specific autoantibodies can provide a simple way to screen for autoimmunity and can predict the development of autoimmune disease in a susceptible population. The gene discussed is TGM2; the disease is autoimmune disease.
