Low TSC2 and PTEN are linked to progression of the cancer [27] and although the molecular pathogenesis of sporadic pancreatic NETs is unknown, several genetic cancer syndromes involving the mTOR pathway, including tuberous sclerosis, neurofibromatosis, and von Hippel–Lindau disease, are linked to the development of pancreatic NETs [28]. The gene discussed is MTOR; the disease is pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor.
