Although low grade proteinuria (grade 1–2) is typically asymptomatic and decreases after anti-VEGF treatment ends, serious proteinuria (grade 3–5) including nephrotic syndrome may cause significant morbidity with a possible consequence of renal failure and fatality during anti-VEGF therapy; concerns have arisen regarding the risk of proteinuria with the use of these drugs.
