On direct comparison with octreotide, pasireotide has 40-, 30- and 5-fold higher affinity for SSTR5, SSTR1 and SSTR3 respectively and twofold lower affinity for SSTR2 (10) and holds potential where conventional SSA's are ineffective such as ACTH secreting adenomas and octreotide-resistant GH-secreting adenomas. This evidence concerns the gene SSTR3 and adenoma.
