We have previously shown in patients with wild-type typhoid fever in Bangladesh that lymphocytes stimulated with S. Typhi antigens produce strong IFN-γ CD4 responses.7 Here, we report a further assessment of the cellular and cytokine responses in patients with typhoid fever after stimulation with a number of S. Typhi antigens, including those identified by a high-throughput screen to identify proteins that generate an immune response.8 The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is typhoid fever.
