Mechanistic studies of these compounds in tumor cells have demonstrated that nitrostyrenes have pro-apoptotic effects based serine/threonine phosphatase (PP2A) inhibition [10],[11], while other studies have proposed that nitrostyrenes can function as telomerase inhibitors [12], phospholipase (A2) inhibitors [13], tyrosine phosphatase inhibitors (PTP1B, SHP1, Yop) [14], or tyrosine kinase inhibitors (Src, Syk, FAK) [15].
