This gene, angiopoietin-like 4 (Angptl4), had just been cloned (Kersten et al., 2000; Yoon et al., 2000) and identified as a PPAR target gene, and recombinant Angptl4 protein was shown to induce hypertriglyceridemia when injected into rodents (Yoshida et al., 2002). Here, ANGPTL4 is linked to hypertriglyceridemia.
