ANGPTL4 and diabetic kidney disease: Conversion of this high pI hyposialylated Angptl4 to sialylated neutral pI Angptl4 in vivo using the sialic acid precursor N-acetyl-D-mannosamine (ManNAc) reduces proteinuria (Clement et al., 2011), and this improvement in proteinuria was noted in rats with MCD (Clement et al., 2011) and diabetic nephropathy (Chugh, 2011b).
