In summary monoclonal antibodies to individual retinoic acid metabolising enzymes have been developed that are effective on formalin fixed wax embedded tissue and shown that the retinoic acid metabolising enzymes CYP26A1, CYP26B1 and LRAT are significantly overexpressed in colorectal cancer and that CYP26B1 and LRAT are significantly associated with prognosis both in the total patient cohort and in those tumour which are MMR proficient. The gene discussed is CYP26B1; the disease is neoplasm.
