Previous research reported that opioid substances such as morphine are an ineffective for the treatment of neuropathic-like pain symptoms in spinal nerve ligation rat models [23], whereas applying EA to the St-36 acupoint reduces pain behavior and excitability of the ipsilateral dorsal horn in CCI-induced neuropathic pain rat models [24], and the antinociceptive effect of acupuncture results from the activation of adenosine A1 receptor expression situated on the ascending nerve [25]. The gene discussed is ADORA1; the disease is neuropathic pain.
