In contrast to the effects of post-weaning undernutrition, undernutrition in early gestation in mature adult females, as well as in males, was associated with reduced insulin sensitivity in adipose tissue, as revealed by the insulin-induced inhibition of lipolysis (NEFA response during GTT), suggesting that this period may also influence lipid metabolism and fat accumulation and/or dyslipidaemia in the longer term. Here, INS is linked to inherited lipid metabolism disorder.
