Oxidative stress has been implicated in other causes of adrenal insufficiency, including triple A syndrome, in which failure of nuclear import of DNA repair proteins and ferritin heavy chain are described (15, 16) and adrenoleukodystrophy, which is secondary to the accumulation of very-long chain fatty acids in the adrenal cortex and other tissues (17). The gene discussed is FTH1; the disease is adrenoleukodystrophy.
