We and others have observed that priming with soluble TWEAK for a few hours can induce a state of reduced responsiveness for proinflammatory signaling by TNFR1, TNFR2, and CD40 in a variety of cell lines and cell types including adipocytes and fibroblast-like synoviocytes of patients suffering on rheumatoid arthritis [(17, 18–20); see also Figure 6]. This evidence concerns the gene TNFSF12 and rheumatoid arthritis.
