Rat C6 glioma cells appear to acquire the ability (albeit a weak one) to pass sulforhodamine 101 when Panx1 is introduced (Lai et al., 2007), and the human prostate adenocarcinoma line LNCaP shows increased movement of calcium between neighboring cells following Panx1 transfection (Vanden Abeele et al., 2006). Here, PANX1 is linked to central nervous system cancer.
