Several mutations are associated with ALS, in particular in genes encoding superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD-1), TAR DNA binding protein of 43-kDa (TDP-43), fused in sarcoma (FUS) and chromosome 9 open reading frame 72 (C9ORF72) (Rosen et al., 1993; Mackenzie et al., 2007; Deng et al., 2010; Laaksovirta et al., 2010; Shatunov et al., 2010). This evidence concerns the gene SOD1 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
