FN3K and diabetes mellitus: On the basis of its ability in rats to reduce levels of 3DG, an important driver of AGE accumulation in diabetes-associated complications and aging, meglumine has been conceptualized as an inhibitor of fructosamine-3-kinase (FN3K), the enzyme responsible for generating the chemical precursors of 3DG (A.T., F.K., A.M., unpublished data).
