One of its major gene products is ecotropic viral integration site 1 (EVI1), an oncogenic zinc finger transcription factor (TF) whose overexpression in myeloid disorders such as acute and chronic myeloid leukemia (AML and CML), and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) has been extensively studied and correlated with poor patient survival [3]–[5]. This evidence concerns the gene MECOM and myelodysplastic syndrome.
