The authors show that miR-141 targets the inner mitochondrial membrane phosphate transporter, solute carrier family 25 member 3 (Slc25a3), which provides inorganic phosphate to the mitochondrial matrix and is essential for ATP production, suggesting an important role of miR-200 family in mitochondrial responses involved in cardiac diseases associated with diabetes and obesity. Here, SLC25A3 is linked to heart disorder.
