Polymorphisms in the TLR4 gene have been associated with different infectious diseases in humans, such as meningitis and tuberculosis, as well as some types of cancers (Noreen et al. 2012) and with infection and disease in cattle, chicken and pigs (Yang et al. 2012; Kataria et al. 2011; Leveque et al. 2003).
