Recently a study shows that sesamin and metabolites induce phase II antioxidant enzymes such as heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) by activation of Nrf2/ARE (antioxidant response element) signaling and suggesting their potential to reduce oxidative stress and ameliorate oxidative stress-related neurodegenerative diseases [17]. This evidence concerns the gene HMOX1 and neurodegenerative disease.
