As RPE cells are located adjacent to choroidal capillaries and other major ocular vasculatures, and are the major contributor of VEGF in the eye, these finding suggests that Rb1 may have a strong effect on the inhibition of angiogenesis of choroidal and retinal capillaries, which contribute to the development of AMD and diabetic retinopathy.
