It is noteworthy that several flavonoids both downregulates Mcl-1 through various different mechanisms (inhibition of CDKs and transcription, translation and the PI3K/AKT pathway, for example) and inhibits the proteasome in CLL cells: these include xanthohumol, apigenin, EGCG and quercetin. Here, MCL1 is linked to B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
