Some recent research suggests that vascular growth factors such as VEGF participate in the pathogenesis and development of connective tissue diseases, and in SLE, any vasculitis, angiemphraxis, and vessel hypertrophy could stimulate the vascular endothelial cells to discharge or secrete vascular growth factors such as VEGF [10]. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is systemic lupus erythematosus.
