Although HAdV-D9 binding to hCAR-positive cells was partially blocked by the HAdV-C5 recombinant knob protein as compared to HAdV-C5 (Figure 3D) as previously reported [56], our qPCR analysis of HAdV binding to CHO cell lines and cancer cell lines with low hCAR expression demonstrated that HAdV-D9 was capable of binding to target cells independently of hCAR (Figure 3).
