It is possible that proinflammatory IL-8 and c-fos activation by ICAM-1 initiates a positive feedback loop, leading to more ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 expression and thereby promoting the sustained recruitment of leukocytes to areas of atherosclerosis, accelerating the process of atherosclerosis by proinflammatory stimuli via indirect or direct ETD [24-26]. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and atherosclerosis.
