The significant increase in amount of the EMT indicator and mesenchymal marker protein vimentin [1], [2] in sparsely growing cells confirmed, that the chosen conditions in this experimental setting resulted in the differentiation between epithelial- and mesenchymal growth of the tumor cells (SW480: 5.8–fold, p = 0.0015, Figure 1B a, b, c; HCT116: 3.6-fold p = 0.01, Figure 1B d, e, f). The gene discussed is VIM; the disease is neoplasm.
