Figure 1(b) depicts a clear dichotomy between MM patients and healthy subjects in their response to CD38 stimulation. In PBMC of MM patients, the proliferation is almost absent while IL-6 production is elevated with a low correlation (r = 0.49, P = 0.014) between these two parameters. In healthy subjects, there is a clear correlation between PBMC proliferation and IL-6 levels (r = 0.65, P < 0.0001) with consistent levels of proliferation and reduced levels of IL-6 (Figure 1(b)). No correlation is found between IFNγ and proliferation (Figure 1(a)) both in patients and healthy subjects. This evidence concerns the gene CD38 and Miyoshi myopathy.
