In light of demonstrated resistance of endothelial cells from Ifnar1SA mice to VEGF-induced angiogenesis (Zheng et al, 2011b) along with observations that elevated levels of VEGF are protective against tissue injury in human patients with acute pancreatitis (Ueda et al, 2006), the role of efficient IFNAR1 ubiquitination in ensuring an adequate blood supply to the regenerating tissues might be important. The gene discussed is IFNAR1; the disease is acute pancreatitis.
