Hints for the importance of cellular senescence in the development of osteoporosis come from hTERC knock-out mice [162,163], hTERT gene therapy that delays the onset of osteoporosis in old mice [32] as well from the fact that removal of senescent p16+ cells also delays the onset of skeletal deformation in the progeroid BubR1 deficient mouse [27]. The gene discussed is BUB1B; the disease is osteoporosis.
