Although treatment for T1DM improved evidently during the 1980s and 1990s with the advent of blood glucose self-monitoring, hemoglobin A1c testing, and use of angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors/angiotensin II receptor blocker [4]–[6], T1DM complications still frequently lead to premature mortality [7]. This evidence concerns the gene ACE and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
