Among those putative proteomic salivary biomarkers for pSS, we have developed a specific interest for gross cystic disease fluid protein-15/prolactin-inducible protein (GCDFP-15/PIP), a secretory acinar protein of 14KDa that has been identified as significantly under-expressed in salivary samples of pSS patients in comparison to healthy volunteers in previous studies carried out by our and other groups [6–9]. The gene discussed is PIP; the disease is peeling skin syndrome.
