Supporting the regulatory role of the AT2R in the TIMP/MMPs axis, Lauer et al., recently reported that in a rat model of infarct-induced heart failure, stimulation of the AT2R with the selective, non-peptide AT2R agonist, C21 induced an activation of TIMP1 and subsequent inhibition of MMP9-mediated proteolysis. The gene discussed is TIMP1; the disease is heart failure.
