Since FAK responds to extracellular stimuli, including signals from the extracellular matrix (ECM) (Schaller, 2010), it is not surprising that wild-type LOXL2, an ECM remodeling enzyme, activates the FAK signaling pathway as has been reported in both gastric and basal-like carcinoma cells (Peng et al., 2009; Moreno-Bueno et al., 2011).
