Additionally, it was reported that the salivary sCD44 levels were much higher in HNSCC patients than in patients with benign disease[66,67]; however, the plasma level of sCD44 was not significantly different between oral cancer patients and normal controls, which may be attributed to the relatively small burden of oral tumors that may not alter the basal level of CD44[66].
