Using a pancreatic cancer mouse model (Rosa26NICD), De La et al(18) demonstrated that the abnormal activation of Notch1 signaling leads to excessive epithelial cell proliferation, decreased apoptosis and malignant transformation of the epithelial phenotype, consequently resulting in the development of pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasms and cancer in the mice. The gene discussed is NOTCH1; the disease is cancer.
