Hryb and colleagues [21] investigated both SHBG mRNA and protein in prostate cancer cell lines (LNCaP, PC 3, and DU 145) as well as in cultured prostate stromal and epithelial cells derived from patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia by biochemical and immunocytochemical techniques, and reported locally synthesized SHBG in the human prostate with an autocrine/paracrine effect. This evidence concerns the gene SHBG and prostate carcinoma.
