SMN1 and autoimmune hepatitis: AIH is an idiopathic, chronic if fluctuating hepatitis characterized histologically by a mixed (lymphocytic and plasma cell) portal and interface inflammatory infiltrate, often in the setting of suggestive epidemiology (e.g., female predominant) and autoantibodies (e.g., ANA, anti-smooth muscle antibodies (anti-SMA), anti-liver-kidney microsomal (anti-LKM) antibody and anti-soluble liver antigen (anti-SLA) [1,2].
