Patients with more CD4+ T-cell count within 6 months at diagnosis was associated with less likelihood to die of AIDS or AIDS-defining illnesses (OR = 0.30 for 50- vs <50, 95% CI, 0.11–0.80, P = 0.017; OR = 0.07 for ≥200 vs <50, 95% CI, 0.01–0.68, P = 0.022). The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is AIDS.
