In another double-blind randomized control trial of 82 patients by Ali et al. (2007), preconditioned patients undergoing elective open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair were found to have lower rates of postoperative myocardial injury (assessed by cardiac troponin I release – TnI > 0.40 μmol/mL), myocardial infarction, and renal impairment (assessed by serum creatinine >177 μmol/L) compared with controls (27, 22, and 23%, respectively). Here, TNNI3 is linked to abdominal aortic aneurysm.
